How to Host a 90s Adult Sleepover

Welcome back to 90s….Does that feel like over 20 years ago?! I still may be living in the 90s…some of the best times and memories of my life. From the boy band battle between N*SYNC and Backstreet Boys…I was team BSB all the way, to the tasty fruit roll ups, Dunk-a-Roos (remember those?!) snacks and treats in the pantry for after school snacking. Some of my favorite shows in the 90s I still look up on YouTube to watch because they are truly classics in my book.

I missed those “old” ways and wanted to capture the fun the again and truly show my appreciation of the 90s era. This simple party theme would be perfect for a bachelorette party, bridal shower or just because it’s Saturday and you need a movie marathon. Another great idea is to use this theme for a Galentine's party. Grab your girls, coordinate your pajamas and throw it back to some of the best times.

Check out 5 ways how to recreate your own 90s slumber party vibe.

Step 1: Focus on your favorites. Had an obsession with nutter butters or potato stix (in the can) or even cheese puffs? Bring it back. Grab your favorite snacks and fill some extra large glass jars with snack-able foods. You'll be snacking all night on your favorites especially with easy access in the extra large jars.

A favorite snack of mine is sweet Pink Popcorn with Animal Cookies. Deliciously sweet and extra pretty right? Check out the recipe below to recreate!

Ingredients:

4 bags of popcorn, 1 cup of pink melting chocolate (vanilla flavor), sprinkles (I chose nonpareils to match the animal cookies)

Instructions:

  1. Pop 4 bags of popcorn

  2. Melt pink melting chocolate chips (microwave every 30 seconds until melted - be sure to stir after each 30 seconds)

  3. Drizzle melted chocolate over top of the popcorn. Toss to coat each piece

  4. Dash the colorful sprinkles all over the sticky popcorn. Continue to toss to coat each piece of popcorn.

  5. Allow to cool slightly and enjoy!

Pro Tip: Add some animal cookies in the popcorn mix for an extra sweet treat.

Step 2: Pull out classic games that you played growing up like Connect Four, Twister, BopIt, SkipIt, Uno...there will be plenty of time to play because you're staying up all night right?

Step 3: Make your space extra comfortable with fun throw pillows and blankets. Not everyone can fit on the bed like we did when we were a child - move that party to the couch and make it cozy with soft pillows that match the theme and plush blankets you can get cozy in. Some of my favorite blankets that are super soft are the Barefoot Dreams blanket and this dupe.

Step 4: Bring back the old school movies - I'm talking Little Rascal's, Princess Diaries, Space Jam, Homeward Bound...bring.them.back! Most of these movies you can find locally at your neighborhood Walmart or Target or you can just order online and have the classics delivered to your door. I have classic Disney VHS tapes I don't ever plan to get rid of, even if we don't use the VCR anymore.

Elan Heights located in the historic Heights district was the perfect spot to host the girls. The Houston skyline was a beautiful backdrop to the bedroom & living room areas.

Step 5: Decorate one "go to" station like a bar cart that can transition from room to room. It is like having a “party on wheels”. You can move the “party” anywhere in your home or even outdoors. It’s also a great way to keep clean up to a minimum once your event is over.

If anyone knows me, I am bar cart crazy lady. I have an IMMENSE love of this signature piece of furniture and am completely guilty of using them for every event big or small. I may or may not own 5…but who’s counting?

Side note: Be on the lookout for more Bar Cart inspiration coming throughout the blog posts!

Okay, enough of the chatter…I’m all for visuals.
