Easy Sangria Jello & Sugared Berries

Always one to “zhoosh” up a childhood favorite dessert, I knew I had to try my hand at upgrading jello. Especially with the holidays in full swing, this recipe is incredibly EASY to make and everyone raved at how delicious, light and refreshing it was.

Ingredients included: 1/2 bottle of red wine, 2 tablespoons of brandy (my brother prefers Grand Marnier), 1/4 cup of orange juice, 4 packages of grape jello, fresh fruit – blueberries, red cherries, orange slices

Mix your red wine, brandy and orange juice together as your sangria base.

Begin to prepare your jello as instructed on the back of the package. Before adding in the last cup of cold water, substitute it for your sangria mixture.

Make sure your jello sits overnight and firms well. I placed mine in the freezer overnight to make sure it was thoroughly cold. While allowing it to firm, I selected some “sangria” fruits – cherries, blueberries, orange slices and sugared them by brushing with corn syrup and rolling in sugar. Allow this to dry overnight also. You will use it to top your jello.

Preparing to serve, pour your favorite champagne (amount is dependent on you) but I would suggest, no more than 1/4 cup into the jello glass. The first scoop with sugared fruit, sangria jello and champagne is bubbly, refreshing and sweet.

The champagne begins to seep into the jello after the first scoop and each bite after that gets better and better!
